FROWNING

YKIOK - for those that do not know, this stands for 'Your Kink Is OK, It's Just Not My Kink', and whilst this is supposedly the way members of the kink community (if there is such a thing!) are meant to think, it is patently clear that for a lot of people it is only when it suits them!

I read a thread on a BDSM forum last night where someone asked about a specific kink, one that I have an interest in. There was the occasional sensible reply but the vast majority of the thread was taken up by people doing no more than either taking the piss or saying ewww in one form or another. Reading the thread was like watching a bunch of six year olds in a playground making fun of the boy with the new spectacles. For a milisecond, I thought about logging in and posting a response but decided that the idiots were not actually worth a single second of my time.

It's a different story though if anyone dared to post a negative comment relating to some kink activity that they participate in - all hell would break loose and the YKIOK grenades would be lobbed into the arena!

Sometimes, I believe that that kinksters can be far more intolerant, insensitive and mocking than non-kinksters. And of course they can also be very elitist, looking down their noses at those who, they feel, have inferior or slightly bizzare fetish tastes compared to their own. Or if you are not part of the 'fettarati' then you are simply not worth bothering with.

None of us are perfect, we all have an ick factor. Certain BDSM or kink activities make us uncomfortable or we simply do not see the turn-on in doing them. But the majority (I hope) of us do not deride those who want to do those things, we do not laugh at them or make fun of them, we keep our negativity to ourselves and simply accept that each is entitled to their own. Or at least the grown-ups do!

And I am suddenly starting to remember why I stopped going to fet events!

I am agreeing with every word you are saying here! If the nonsense was confined to keyboard warriors I could ignore it, but real life intolerance in the scene seems to be more frequent these days. Sad really.

Pretty sure that I know what site and what thread you are referring to, and yeah, it was ridiculous :(

That to is one thing that irritates me is people who claim to be open minded only being open minded about what they choose. People who do things outside the realm of normal only blasting others who do things another way. Variety is the spice of life. :)

Unfortunately it is a rare individual who matures passed the sixth grade level.

I do agree with you that the attitude of YKIOK is only ever aspirational for some folk.

Should've lobbed some virtual grenades anyway, lol.

@dollydimples - yes, sad.

@Techbondage - 'variety is the spice of life' - absolutely! Life would be incredibly dull if we were all the same.

@anon 2 - Rather a depressing thought to think it is a rare occurance lol.

@ Ms Lacrymosa - nah, make love not war ;)

I wholeheartedly agree.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve discussed my personal kink, and people either looking at me in disgust, or simply telling me I’m out of my mind.

Yet I can’t see how I’m harming anyone with my obsessive urge to have three naked rabbis eating pork whilst reciting the Koran, all the while flogging me with a large bowl of aspic as I bark like a dog in heat tethered to a Vegas Blackjack dealer.

I just don’t understand the intolerance…
